Teach and Coach Sports volunteering in India
Another adventurous program to sign up for with Kenosis invites you to teach football, netball, cricket, tennis, and athletics to students in India. As a volunteer, you’ll help children of different ages develop English speaking skills, self-confidence, and healthy habits. You’ll work Monday through Friday each week, assisting with physical education classes in the morning, and in the afternoon you help run an after-school sports program. During your stay, you’ll live in a dormitory-style home with other volunteers close to town, and you’ll have plenty of free time to take side trips to Fort Kochi, the Periyar Forest and National Park, and much more.
Travel to the beautiful port city of Bangalore, Hosur, and rural district of Krishnagiri in the Southern state of Karnataka and Tamilnadu and help teach children a range of different sports including football, netball, cricket, tennis and athletics or work on physical activities for children with disabilities.
Sports play an important role in child development boosting confidence and encouraging healthy living. Working in a local school you will make a positive difference and bring great joy to the lives of the children. Through the medium of sport, you will help to develop English and team working skills.
The aim is for you to work with teachers, local communities and Kenosis staff to run sports projects at the schools and to give more personal attention to the students. Without this project or volunteer assistance, the children would not have the opportunity to take part in such a variety of sports activities and events, due to lack of equipment, skill and supervision.
Outside of project work Kochi provides ample opportunity to explore and experience Indian culture. Support our local henna artist and immerse yourself in the Indian culture.Experience traditional Kathakali dance, visit exotic spice markets and sample delicious local cuisine.
Wherever you travel in the world you will always find people who love sports. Sports bring people together and help to build strong communities, as well as contribute to the creation of healthy, happy individuals. Sports can also provide a much-needed distraction from more negative aspects of people’s lives and, to many people from disadvantaged backgrounds, it can offer a route out of poverty and a path of excitement and promise. Your role is assisting local coaches with training or leading your own classes in a variety of sports in schools, local sport centers, and clubs.
Regular and organized sports coaching can have a very positive impact on children. As well as the obvious physical and mental benefits that regular exercise provides, there are many inherent life-skills to be learned, such as the importance of teamwork, communication, and discipline. And, of course, there is a great deal of fun and excitement to be had along the way!
Volunteer Coaching Sports Abroad
Each of our international volunteer Sports projects share the following aims:
Fostering of local sports talent through provision of quality coaches and support for our volunteer trainee coaches.
Development of the wider communities in which we work through offering alternatives to young people from impoverished areas.
Inclusion - making sports available to all. As a volunteer coach on a Kenosis Sports Project abroad, you will be helping with all these aspects of development while working with the most enthusiastic people in some of the poorest communities in the developing world.
Volunteer Work and Sports Abroad
Through well-established relationships with local teams, clubs, and carefully structured sports placements, we are able to assist volunteers regardless of coaching experience. Whatever your interests we can find the right Sports project overseas for you!
